Talky's radio is internet-streamed — HLS, Icecast and SHOUTcast under the hood — not FM hardware. It works anywhere you have Wi-Fi or cellular, sounds great on AirPods, and ships with a built-in sleep timer and 5-band EQ. Pro removes the ads. The walkie-talkie side stays offline over Multipeer; the radio is the connected complement when you'd rather listen than talk. Best of both: a private channel for your crew, a planet of stations when you don't have one.

Everything most people ask before they tap Download. Short and honest answers, no marketing fluff.

Is Talky a free walkie-talkie app?
Yes. Talky is free on the App Store — no account, no phone number, no email. Push-to-talk, 210 radio stations, Live Activities, 5 themes and 5 languages are all included free. An optional Talky Pro subscription removes ads and unlocks 11 extra themes, the 5-band EQ, session recording and sleep timer — from €1.99/week or annual, cancellable anytime.
Does Talky work without internet?
The walkie-talkie does, completely. Talky uses Apple's Multipeer Connectivity over Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth, so nearby iPhones, iPads and Macs can push-to-talk with no SIM, no Wi-Fi router, no servers. Only the radio streaming part needs internet, because stations are pulled live from the web.
How many people can talk at the same time?
Up to 8 devices on the same channel, mixing iPhone, iPad and Apple Silicon Mac. Push-to-talk is half-duplex like a real walkie-talkie — one person transmits, everyone else listens, then it's the next person's turn. No accounts, no setup: open the app, pick a channel, press to talk.
Does Talky run on Mac?
Yes. Talky runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4) as a Designed-for-iPad app, alongside iPhone and iPad. Same download, same App Store link, universal binary. You can keep Talky in a window while you work and your phone stays in the same channel.
Is Talky a Zello or Voxer alternative?
Yes, with a key difference: Talky is fully offline and peer-to-peer — your voice never transits Talky servers because there are no Talky servers. Zello and Voxer route voice through their backends; Talky uses Apple's Multipeer over local Wi-Fi + Bluetooth. Perfect for festivals, ski lifts, road trips and dead zones.
Is Talky open source?
Talky is source-available on GitHub under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license. Personal, educational and non-profit use is free; commercial reuse needs a separate license. Read the Swift, study the Multipeer engine, fork it for your own devices: github.com/andreapianidev/WalkieTalkie.
Does Talky collect my voice or data?
No. Push-to-talk audio never touches a server because there is no Talky server — voice goes peer-to-peer between devices on the same local network. Talky doesn't require an account, doesn't ask for a phone number, and doesn't store transmissions in the cloud. Radio streams are public broadcasters' streams, fetched directly from their endpoints.
